On Tuesday, 6 May 2025, a ceremonial event marked the commencement of the construction of Arnes Data Centre in Maribor, featuring the laying of the foundation stone, official addresses, and two roundtable discussions.

In the second round of Arnes HackathON, which took place on 15th of April the winner was a team called Ekipa42, whose solution addressed the challenge “Health and Wellbeing”.

The purchase of a site by ARNES in the area of the Dravske elektrarne Maribor power station, together with a cofinancing contract already signed, represents a fundamental step towards construction of a data centre that will enable an outstanding and internationally competitive research infrastructure for open science.

In the project IR optika 2, and still before the end of the project, which runs until 30 June 2024, Arnes set up and took over all 204 of the planned fibre optic connections.
